Inherit Carbon Solutions Secures Access to Project Greensand’s Full-Scale CO2 Storage Facility
Oslo, Norway – Dec 10, 2024 – Inherit Carbon Solutions is proud to announce the signing of a storage contract with Project Greensand, following its Final Investment Decision (FID) to launch EUs first full-scale CO2 storage facility.
Inherit develops high-quality carbon removal projects and will use the Greensand project in Denmark to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere on a permanent basis. The origin of the carbon dioxide will be biogas plants across Scandinavia that capture the gas as part of their normal gas cleaning operations.
Project Greensand, led by INEOS, will commence operations in the Danish North Sea by late 2025 or early 2026. Initially storing 400,000 tons of CO2 annually, the facility aims to scale up to 8 million tons by 2030, contributing significantly to Europe’s decarbonization efforts.
"We are very excited to partner with Greensand and become one of their first customers for CO2 storage" says Mike Carpenter, Inherit's CEO and Co-founder,
Mads Gade, Head of INEOS Energy Denmark says " “With Greensand Future and the establishment of the full value chain we are sending an important message to the Danish and European emitters currently considering large-scale capture projects, that it can be done.”
